This is where your child becomes one of the big kids. He is now a fluent talker and enjoys describing things not just stating what they are. This is a critical time where you want your child's baby developmental toys to challenge his desire to explore, not stifle it.

During this time, your child will realize that he can multitask, that he can do something with one hand while doing something else with the other. He will also begin sorting things not just by size or color, but by both size and color. Some of the best baby developmental toys for this age are arts and crafts. Activities such as finger painting, modeling clay and chalkboards provide a clean slate for your child to express his creativity. Simple sports are also a great way to foster teamwork and cooperation.

Your child will also begin role playing familiar characters like daddy, or grandpa. At the same time small wooden replicas of animals make great baby developmental toys for this age as he'll want to learn about worlds that exist beyond his own. Your search should include baby developmental toys that develop his concentration. This is a great time to introduce electronic games and workbooks. Also baby developmental toys like train sets or car sets promote concentration while stimulating their curiosity of how things work.

Sand boxes and board games provide a unique opportunity for your child to play like the big kids. Whether he's creating a kingdom or holding his own at a big kids game, either way he will be developing his sense of responsibility and independence. The best baby developmental toys are colorful, sturdy, open ended toys. These will stimulate his imagination and will not place limits as to how he can play with them.

And remember, learning doesn't have to be a chore. It doesn't have to cost an arm and a leg either. Your baby's name will be an introduction to the type of person he or she is - for example, is your baby girl a 'Lilly', or is she a 'Rose'? In your baby boy a 'George' or a 'William'? Should your baby's name mean 'strength' or 'desire', or is the name's meaning not important?

Parents, grandparents, friends, siblings, and family will be sharing their advice and ideas in helping you find a name for your child. Chances are you will spend hours trying to pin down that perfect baby name and you'll change your mind more than once along the way. But eventually, you will find a few names that you like best.

Once you find a few different names, you can ask friends and family which name they like best. You can also compare your list to the top 100 baby names by decade or the most popular names of a specific year - maybe you want a popular baby name or maybe you prefer a unique name. Eventually, you will find the perfect baby name, and it will instill you with a sense of pride and achievement, both for you and eventually for your child.

Selecting a popular name for your baby

Today's favorite names may or may not be around tomorrow. While some names have proven the test of time, others have come and gone like leg warmers. There is an easy way to determine if a name has staying power, simply review the top 100 names by year using this site. We list the top 100 baby names for the past 125 years, by year. While choosing a very popular name today can be fun, it may mean your son or daughter will be one of many in their classes growing up. This isn't necessarily bad, but something to consider when selecting that perfect baby name.

Selecting a baby name with the perfect meaning

A great method in finding a perfect baby name is to understand the name meaning. You can find the perfect baby name meaning using one of two methods: 1) you can look up the meanings of your favorite names, and/or 2) you can take the BabyNamesUSA test. The tests helps you find the perfect baby name by choosing words that you believe are important or are words you want your future baby to possess - like loving, or gentle, or intelligent.

The test will allow you to choose meanings that are significant and/or important to you - whether it's a characteristic you find admirable, or one in which you want your future baby to possess to become successful in life.

Searching for a baby name using the origin/ethnicity/religion of the name

One of the most common methods for selecting a baby name is using the origin and/or ethnicity of the baby name. This will give the baby an immediate source of identity and an understanding of the culture and origin of the baby's family heritage. In some religions, like Judaism, it is common to name a baby after a deceased family member, to honor loved ones who've passed. In many cases these names were from a different generation (see top 100 baby names by year, above) and may be 'out of style'. If this is the case, middle names are the perfect solution.

Choose a baby name for each sex - so whatever the baby is, you are ready.

Once you get the wonderful news that a new baby is coming, it will be a while until you can determine the baby's sex - IF you are considering finding out at all (food for thought - there is no better surprise, and nothing more worth waiting for). Having a boy's name and girl's name is a great start.

Naming the baby after the parent - either a single name, or the entire name

In order for your baby boy to become a Jr. (junior), or the 'II' (the second), the entire name should be the same as the father's. The father is the Sr. (senior), the son becomes the Jr. For example, John William Smith names his son John William Smith, the father is the Sr. /I, the son is the Jr. /II. If the son is the third generation to receive the name, the baby boy typically becomes the III (third). Be sure you want to name your baby boy, or baby girl, the same as a parent - it can lead to confusion growing up. If you know you want to name the baby after a parent, selecting a unique middle name may be the perfect solution.

Your child will have to live with this name for a lifetime.

The name you choose for your baby (and future child/adult) should be worn happily. Will family, friends and one day, employers 'take notice' for the wrong reasons? Remember, kids can be cruel - don't make life more challenging than it needs to be.

Choose a baby name that you are proud of, and makes you smile.

Naming your baby after family and friends that have a special place in your heart is a great place to start. Are their special attributes you want your baby to carry - choosing a name that means something special is also a great idea.

Make sure the full name (first, middle and last) sounds good together.

Say the baby's name aloud - is it easy or difficult to say the name? Choose a name that flows well together. Stay away from Jim Shoe (gym shoe) or names that when pieced together can have an alternate meaning.

Write the full baby name down - as well as the initials of all names.

If your baby name's initials make up another word - be sure you are comfortable with what results. For example James Earl Thompson (JET) may be acceptable, but think twice about names like Daniel Irving Petty (DIP).

Spell it!! When writing the name down, was it difficult to spell and/or say? If you had problems, you may want to reconsider the name.

Nicknames are inevitable.

When your child goes to school, joins a sports team or club, chances are a nickname may be close behind. Some nicknames can be endearing, but others may not be what you had in mind when naming your baby. Many times, Alan Jackson results in AJ - be sure this is acceptable, as many times, it is ultimately out of the parents control.

Naming your baby after a sports figure, movie star, or political hero

Be sure you want to go this route, prior to naming your baby. While the name may be beautiful - it could become overly popular. Or, if the person falls out of favor, it may result in giving the name a negative stigma.

Naming multiple babies

If your family is going to increase by more than one baby, there a few things to consider. First, naming babies with the same first initial may be confusing - for you, the babies and future teachers. You may want to consider choosing different initials - giving each child a unique name. Second, choosing different initials may make things easier when accepting gifts containing your babies' initials. If each baby's name contains the same letters - it will be difficult in determining which gifts belong to which baby. This will only get more challenging.

Religious & Traditional considerations

Some families have a tradition in passing down names from generation to generation. Make sure you check with both parents' families first. Also, some religions don't allow babies to be named after living family members. Be sure to check your religious beliefs as well.

Select multiple names for your baby.

Chances are, you and your partner, your family, and others will all have a different name in mind. While the decision ultimately comes down to the parent(s), keep your mind open to suggestions. Not only will this help in selecting the best name for your baby, but it will make your life easier along the way.

What if there is a pet with the same name we wanted to name our baby.

Unless the name is Fido or Spot - we wouldn't worry much about it. We had a dog name Jordan (after Michael Jordan), and I've met many other people named Jordan. It is inevitable that someone somewhere named a dog, cat, fish or rabbit the same name you are considering for your baby. If you love the name - don't look back.

I have a friend/family member who is considering the name I wanted for my baby.

There are a few things you can do. If the person is going to move forward with the name, you may need to choose a new one (or try talking with them). Or you can find the meaning of the name, and see if a different name with the same meaning is appealing to you.

For you parents that have yet to choose a name for your baby - you should learn from this lesson. You may want to keep you favorite names secret - or only share with people that 1) aren't going to have kids anytime soon or 2) you can definitely trust. Well-liked and/or unique names can become very popular, very quickly.

I love the name - but others do not.

Two points on this.

1. If the opinions of these people mean something to you, it is up to you and your partner whether or not you let other people's opinions change your mind. If their points are valid - it may be worth listening to the person. See 'Selecting a Name'

2. You will always be able to find someone that isn't crazy about the name you've chosen for your baby. If you are happy with your choice - then tune the person out. If that doesn't work, tell them thanks for sharing their opinion with you, and name your baby what you wanted to anyway.

I like one baby name - my partner likes a different name.

There are several things you can do to compromise.

1. One of you pick the first name, the other can select the middle name - or a nick-name for the baby.

2. Each of you can select a few names you each like, and see if one of those baby names makes you both happy.

3. If you are planning on having multiple children, you can take turns selecting the baby's name. You can pick the name for the first child, and your partner can pick the name of the next baby. Be aware - if you decide to do it this way, one of you may not be happy when it comes to the next baby's name.

4. Dart board - Put the different baby names on a dart board (or something similar), and throw away! If that doesn't work, try the 'flip-a-coin' method.

My partner wants to name the baby after a family member - but I really don't care for the name (or the family member).

Honesty is typically the best policy in most cases. If you are not thrilled with the name your partner has chosen for the baby, see article 'I like one baby name - my partner likes a different name'. There are ideas here that will help.

One suggestion: It would probably be best if you didn't tell your partner that "You don't like the name they have chosen". It will be easier if you just say, let's consider that name, and come up with some alternatives as well. Or, if your partner is insistent on that particular name, you may want to use it as the baby's middle name.

Scott Zak is a publisher of http://www.babynamesusa.com and http://thetop100babynames.com

Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/?expert=Scott_Zak

Constipation in Babies

Constipation is difficulty or delay phase stools or bowel movements. Learning about your baby’s first year milestones can help you make better choices about the items you put in the nursery. There are many types of furniture that will grow with your baby into the toddler and teen years. When your baby is first born, expect mostly sleeping, some crying, a fair amount of eating and of course, elimination. That’s about it, but it is adorable. This is the perfect time to use the Da Vinci Cradle which is smaller and more protected than a crib. You can also keep the cradle at your bedside to rock the baby to sleep and respond quickly in the night. This is a safer choice than keeping your little one in bed with you. However, cradles shouldn’t be used after baby starts to be more mobile which happens during the second and third months. From totally dependent newborn he or she will slowly get more voluntary control over the body. Endless hours are spent inspecting hands and body movements. Increasingly aware of his surroundings, your face will be recognized and you’ll love it. Smiles appear more frequently especially when you are seen or heard (This drops off in the teen years!). Neck strength will greatly improve along with mobility. There could even be cooing and swatting at mobile toys. At this point, baby will need something less restrictive such as the Da Vinci Convertible Crib. In fact, this one convertible piece of baby furniture could last from home from the hospital to out the door to college. Convertible cribs reassemble to create a sturdy toddler bed, practical day bed and even a comfortable full size bed. Some convertible baby furniture comes with a conversion kit, other times you’ll need to purchase a kit separately. Another item of baby furniture you’ll want is the Da Vinci 3 or 4 drawer dresser / changer. Also convertible, this is a safe perch for diaper changes through baby’s first year of life. Later it re-invents itself as a dresser as your child’s needs change. You’ll need this for clothing, blankets, diapers and toys to begin with. During months four through seven, expect a predictable routine to emerge. Learning to coordinate the use of vision, touch, and hearing, developing motor skills of grasping, rolling over, sitting up and crawling, your baby will mouth, manipulate and explore all objects of interest. Your baby will learn to cry, whine, show displeasure and make it all worth it by developing a strong, tangible attachment to you. Those babies know how to get us, don’t they? About this time you’ll want to make sure you have an item such as a Da Vinci Bookcase. You will want to have a place for visual and motor skill development toys. This is also the ideal time to begin reading daily with your little one, and you’ll need a place to keep books. >From eight months to a year, baby becomes increasingly mobile, developing quickly enough to keep you on your toes, crawling and possibly walking, exploring everything. Sitting up, rolling around, and grabbing things…you’ll never know what’s next! Retire the baby changer; Use a pad on the floor instead. Baby-proof your home as best you can, and just keep one eye on your little one at all times! It’s a fun time of life, one filled with discovery and a great deal of love. It does take a lot of time, dedication and devotion. Having the right tools on hand for the great challenge of parenting can make it all a little more manageable and a lot more fun. Whether you decide to go with convertible baby furniture to go the distance, or pieces to mix and match and swap out later, remember to look for quality and safety. Make one wise investment in your child’s dreams for many good nights to come.
Article Source:http://www.articlecity.com/articles/family/article_2948.shtml

Six Steps for Swaddling Your Baby

by: Andre’ Savoie
If you are swaddling your baby for the first time you might find that using a regular baby blanket instead of a swaddle blanket can make the process quite a struggle. The experienced hands of caregivers in newborn nurseries or mothers who have swaddled their babies many times make it look easier than it is. The fabric that the blanket is made of also plays a large role in successful swaddling. Special note about these tips: Lightweight cotton muslin is more comfortable for your newborn and is soft and stretchable – all of which will help make you a master artist in a shorter time. A bigger sized blanket also helps make swaddling less challenging. Six easy steps to swaddling your baby: 1. Lay your square shaped blanket out on a flat surface in the shape of a diamond. 2. Fold down three or four inches (more or less depending on the size of your baby and the blanket being used) of the top corner of the blanket down towards you like an envelope flap. 3. Place your baby on his/her back on the blanket so that the head is on the envelope flap you folded down. 4. Place your baby’s right hand at his/her side. Pull the right triangular corner of the blanket over the right hand and across the body in a downward angle. Tuck the corner under the left side of his/her back leaving the left arm free. 5. Bring the bottom corner of the blanket up and tuck it inside the blanket near baby’s chest, a safe distance from the chin to prevent suffocation if the blanket came undone. 6. Similarly place baby's left arm by the side. Pull the left corner over the left arm and across the body in a downward angle. Tuck it behind the blanket on his/her back on the opposite side. Always keep the blanket away from your baby’s face. As your baby grows you might want to leave one arm or both free. Swaddling generally stops when your baby is about two or three months old. You are now a master swaddle artist! Swaddling Tip: Some parents suggest that swaddling is similar to folding a taco. So if you are a taco lover you should have no problem with swaddling! Keep the blanket snug to prevent your baby from wriggling out, but not so tight as to prevent any movement at all. If you still find swaddling time consuming and challenging, you might want to look online for swaddling demonstration videos. These videos will show you multiple techniques that work for swaddling in addition to the techniques described in this article.
sourse http://www.articlecity.com/articles/parenting/article_1827.shtml

Celebrate and Commemorate the Occasion

by: John Smith
Newspapers are like time capsules, they're published each and every day and with every new edition they chart the course of history for better and for worse. In fact, original newspapers, precisely as they were printed on the day itself are everyday items which can become historic and interesting mementos. Isn't it funny how something we throw away or read over breakfast, can, with a little time and hindsight become a real relic of our lives? Something worth reading a few times just to soak up the past and remember where we were, and how things were different back then? A great way to commemorate and celebrate any occasion in your life, be it the birth of a new child or even the 100th birthday of a relative is to purchase original newspapers for specific dates which hold meaning for you. Remembering Major Events Throughout our lifetimes there are bound to be moments which will last in our minds forever, for some people it might be the US moon landing of 1969 which means the most to us, for other people we might still be moved by the death of Princess Diana or the inauguration of Barack Obama as US President. Newspapers can be a source of mirth too and satirical comic strips from old newspapers can tell you a lot about the political pressures and direction at the time. Whatever moments in history have meant something to you and your family. It's now easy to pick up original newspapers from that date and year. When we say original newspapers we mean the real deal, an actual printed paper in its entirety from that date. They can then be kept as a lasting reminder and interesting keepsake. Or even given as a meaningful gift to the people you care about. It can be thrilling to open a parcel and discover an old, perfectly printed newspaper inside which conjures to mind all kinds of life changing memories. Think back to dates in your own life that have held meaning for yourself or for the people you love. Perhaps there was a day when someone you knew made front page news, or a day when your favourite footballer scored that winning goal? So many events occur in the news which touch our lives personally and mean a lot to us, so imagine the joy you, or your loved ones could find reading original newspapers from your shared past. The Day You Were Born The day you were born was a huge event for your parents and it is probably unforgettable, however, the day that they themselves were born is a different story. What do you think was happening in the world the day your mother was born? Who do you think was Prime Minister in the UK? Who might have been the President in the US? And what do you think was hitting the headlines? Times change and many things become different over the years, including the way that products are marketed! Even the way that news is reported has undergone huge changes in the past 40 years. So, why not get your mother, father or grandparents original newspapers from the dates they were born? It can be funny looking at the articles from that day and seeing just how much things have changed but it could also spark off some other fond memories for your loved ones. Typically, the older the person whose birthday it is, the more interesting the newspaper you will probably find to celebrate it. As Precious As Photographs When it comes to remembering old experiences and recounting tales of days gone by, nothing jogs your memory like some photographs. In a similar way, newspapers (incidentally, crammed full of photographs!) can help people in your life remember fond times and offer them something interesting and fun. Equally, if you got someone original newspapers as a gift they would probably be kept along with the photographs they own, to be taken out at certain times of the year and on special days to look at and reminisce with. Something we love is looking at old advertisements in newspapers. Some of the adverts that were printed as recently as the 60s are really funny and interesting. Some ads make us laugh and others make us sing catchy advertising jingles or wish that companies still had such a cheery approach to advertising their products. There's just so much to love about old original newspapers, whether it's the advertisements, the big events, the fact they jog your memory or their sentimental value. So, next time you're looking for the perfect present why not look in to the past instead of the future and get them an interesting and touching newspaper!
source :
http://www.articlecity.com/articles/family/article_3092.shtml

About The Author
Getting Personal offer unique high quality gifts & personalised gifts at affordable prices, delivered quickly and guaranteed with a smile. For further information, please visit http://www.gettingpersonal.co.uk

Baby Game Shower: Baby games to play at the Baby Shower

Babies are so much fun. But baby games shower are much more fun since moms-to-be, godparents, grandparents, and other invitees in the baby shower can get to play childish games again. Some of the baby game shower that can be played include Sing It, Baby!, Measuring up Mommy, Here's Looking at You, Kid!, Don't Say Baby, Baby Truth or Dare, The Seventh Gift, and Dig out the Pins.
These baby games are the common baby game showers usually played. They are a great way that would let the guests mingle and get to know each other, if they aren't acquainted yet. This is also another great way to give honor to the mom-to-be for having that precious baby on the way.
How do we play these baby game showers? Here is the run-down on how to play the baby game shower and create good memories of a great baby shower.
In Sing It, Baby!, the guests participants form a circle. They can sit or stand. Then, each guest must sing a line or two from a song that has the word "baby" in it. When the first game player has finished, the next person seated on her right has ten seconds to sing another "baby" song. "Baby" songs cannot be repeated, thus, participants who repeat a song or cannot think of a "baby" song gets booted out of the game. Last person singing in this baby game shower wins the prize!
How big has mommy become? Measuring Up Mommy is the baby game shower to play as this gives the guests the freedom to measure mommy's size. Have a couple of toilet paper rolls ready and ask each participant to estimate the size of mommy's girth by cutting the toilet paper to their guess size. Then each one wraps around the new mommy's stomach the toilet paper they cut. The nearest length approximating to the mommy's stomach wins the prize!
Remember how you looked when you were a baby? This game takes you down memory lane as you need to dig up those baby pictures of yours. Because you need them to play the baby game shower Here's Lookin' At You, Kid! Before the party itself, request all the guests coming to bring the cutest baby picture of themselves. Upon their arrival, secure each baby picture and assign a number per picture. During the game, lay all baby pictures and give each participant paper and pen and ask them to identify as many baby pictures as they can. The guest with the most number of correct guesses is the big winner.
This baby game shower makes you NOT say what you are suppose to be attending to! The game Don't Say Baby is precisely that! Don't say "baby" during the entire length of the baby game shower for the diaper pin that was given to you upon your arrival will be taken away from you. The person with the most number of diaper pins collected at the end of the shower party wins a prize.
This baby game shower is for those who love baby trivia and the like. Play Baby Truth or Dare by writing down some baby trivia, some correct and others purposely written incorrectly. During the baby game shower, ask randomly if the baby facts are either true or false. Those who guess correctly gets a prize while those who don't will be dared to perform in front of everyone else.
We all know that the single lady who catches the bride's wedding bouquet is said to become the next bride. In The Seventh Gift, it is not so much a baby game shower but more of a fable that says that the giver of the seventh gift unwrapped will be the next expecting mother. However, avoid "planting" the seventh gift.
Last but not the least, Dig Out the Pins is the baby game shower that tests the agility of the guests as they fish out the most number of diaper pins from a large bowl filled with uncooked rice and diaper pins in under two minutes. The participant that has the most number of pins brings home the prize.

The best baby gift ever is just a click away!

Tired of searching for that perfect baby gift for someone special? Well, second to hearing the grand proposal of a lifetime. After a successful wedding ceremony, hearing that your love has borne fruit is the icing on the cake. For first time expecting mothers, it is a difficult and herculean task to search and look for all the right stuff and equipment the baby will need. Moms-to-be need to list down all the things the baby would need at the soonest possible time so that little by little, each item can already be purchased and readied for the baby's arrival. But there is another easy way to almost have it all, without getting too much headache over it. The solution is to hold a baby shower party! The only headache mom-to-be would have is the menu she would have to prepare on that day and that is easier for her.
Now the burden of searching and looking for baby stuff is passed on to the invitees. But another concern is raised. How will the baby shower go about? The best answer there is, is to have a theme that would guide the flow of the baby shower. There are several ways of choosing and deciding on a theme. Do you want it to be based on color? In case you already know the gender of the baby, pink or blue is used to universally represent a baby girl or a baby boy. Or baby items such as a pacifier or a baby bottle? How about character-themed baby shower such as the Sesame Street, Power Puff Girls, Dexter's Laboratory or the Looney Tunes? It could also be a time-of-the-day baby shower whereby each invitee is tasked to bring something the baby would need or use during that time of the day.
From www.best-baby-gift-guide.com, it suggests wonderful baby shower gift ideas such as a baby gift basket, a layette gift set, vital baby equipment, beautiful baby linen, a baby massage set, or a baby gift certificate. Each gift idea is unique. For the baby gift basket, some ideas they suggest is to create your own baby gift basket or go for the classical clothing baby gift basket where you can never go wrong.
